BUSY SUMMER

We have spent this summer at home so far, but it has been BUSY....LOTS OF FUN, but busy. Jake has taken swimming lessons and played tee ball for the FIRST time, we have spent a great week at VBS, and just hung around at home having fun! Click HERE for SUMMER PICTURES!

THAT'S "RIDICLIOUS?"

"Now that I am four, I can go far in the water." Jake proclaims as he heads deeper into the lake at my parents' house. As I stand in ankle deep water calmly encouraging him to come closer to the "shore" he continues to assure me that he will "be right back," that it will "only take a minute." After THREE times of imploring louder and LOUDER with him I march, as well as one can march in water that is getting deeper with every step, into the lake to retrieve my BRAVE four year old who is not wearing floaties and doesn't start swim lessons for another week.

After getting him to shore and on the sea wall and say to him, "How many times should I have to tell you to do something?" "One time," he answers. I then explain to him that the next time I call him, more than once, out of deep water, he will get a spanking, and we will go home. To which he replies..."That's RIDICLIOUS!" not ridiculous but RIDICLIOUS!!!

Frustration and Gift Bags

Last night, after getting home at 9:00 from our open house for the school's new library , I was cleaning up for the cleaning lady to come. Am I the only one who does that?!?!?! I digress!!

As I am organizing Jake's playroom that he had already "cleaned up" four year old style, I am explaining to him that he needs to clean up after himself each time he plays, that I clean up after myself, that it's really not fair for me to clean up for everyone, blah, blah, blah.

He promptly leaves the playroom only to return minutes later with an empty Monsters vs. Aliens gift bag and these words of wisdom... "Mama, you don't need to get frustrated about cleaning up my toys. Just take this bag. It will make you happy. Take it to work and show your friends."

That little insight instantly alleviated my frustration and just made me stop and love on my sweet little man with his peace offering. I am sure God was smiling right along with me.

So last night while Jake was getting in bed he shares the following.

"In the morning Daddy and me will fight." (I realize he should have said Daddy and I ...)
I say, "You will fight?"
He says, "Yes we will have to fight."
I say, "WHY?"

SIDEBAR...Now remember, Brett works shift work...odd hours...

He says, "Because I will wake up and want to play games, but Daddy will want to stay asleep. That will make us have a fight."

My child knows his Daddy likes his sleep!!!! Especially when he doesn't get home from work until 11:30!

Tent, Staples, Fire, & Haircuts

Most of you know that Jake had an accident while we were camping over Spring Break. Nothing serious, PRAISE JESUS, but SCARY for Brett and me. He fell off of the playground equipment, hit his head, bled profusely, and got 3 staples. He was QUITE a trooper and seemed to really enjoy his time in the ER waiting room. The Coke Machine with the little robotic arm was very entertaining.

Well, some funny conversations have occurred as a result of the fall.

#1 Upon returning to the waiting room after getting the staples, Beth, my sister, who of course came to check on Jake, asked, "What did they do while you were back there?" And Jake, who had been given a shot of Lidocaine (which burns) in his scalp to deaden the area responded, "They put fire in my head!"

#2 Yesterday my mom told Jake that he needed a haircut to which Jake answered, "I can't. It will make my head bleed."

Pink Eye and Birthday Cake

So I think Jake has pink eye. I say "think" because it started Saturday afternoon, and I haven't talked to the doctor. I was explaining to Jake what pink eye is....that it causes your eye to look pink, that it is itchy, and that "boogers" come out of your eye. Well a couple of hours later, after much thought I imagine we have this conversation...

Jake says, "Mama, I got pink eye at the party."

I say, "What party?"

He says, "At Avery's birthday party. " (which was 3 weeks ago)

I say, "How did you get it there?"

He says , "I got a little cupcake in my eye while I was eating and got pink eye." (Avery's cake was PINK!!!)

I say, "I bet that's it Buddy."

SNOW on SUNDAY

Kill the Turtle

As most of you know our fam got a Wii for Christmas, and while I am addicted to the Wii Fit, Jake is equally obsessed with the George of the Jungle game. So today after I turned onto the culdesac to find my 2 guys riding bikes...a sweet sight when I turned the corner...we go inside and our time with George began. As with many things, Daddy can do this MUCH better than I. So when I turn on the game system and finally find the correct part of the game, Jake begins jumping up and down YELLING to Brett "Kill the turtle Daddy. We really need your help! The turtle will kill me!" Well...I try to kill the turtle and of course am an ABSOLUTE failure. So here comes dad to save the day. He waltzes right up, takes the remote, kills the turtle, and heads to Bible study. Only to have Jake say, "Daddy killed him, Mom!" Man, I want to be able to kill the turtle and be the George hero!

We are watching Maya and Miguel now that Daddy is gone!

Christmas Fun

So far we've been to Zoo Lights, Eastdale Mall for Santa, train rides, and the merry-go-round, and Great Nana's for the Ward Family Christmas. We also made a gingerbread house...from a kit...so don't be too impressed! As always Christmas is BUSY but so much FUN!!!

CAMPING and RAPPING

We went camping during October and had a great time sleeping in the tent, cooking on the fire, hiking and playing at the campground. This time Holly went with us, and although it was very cold, I think she will be making another trip with us. While at Oak Mtn, the Atchisons got in touch with their inner "rapper." Take a look!

Bob the Builder and Halloween

This year Jake was Bob the Builder. As usual we went to the church Fall Festival. Jake had fun playing the games and getting candy, but of course his favorite was the INFLATABLES!! Before the festival we went to Granmama and Poppa's where Jake got to see Kaylie and Avery in their costumes!

WE went to the Pumpkin Patch yesterday, and of course Jake LOVED it. He seems to love anything that involves going somewhere! Granmama, Poppa, Lynlee and Holly went with us. Brett had to work. LOVING THE BEACH

We just got back from a week at PANAMA CITY BEACH, and we had a GREAT time!!! We played in the ocean and the sand and swam in the pools. Jake LOVED the playground at Venture Out (where we stayed) and Putt-Putt or "pup pup" as he called it. I can't wait until next summer's beach week!

Jake Turns 3

We had a GREAT outside birthday party planned for Granmama and Poppa's house for May 3rd. Well the rain had other plans, and we had to stay inside. Luckily it was a small party. Kaylie, Avery and their mom and dad, and Miller, Macie, and Haley, and their mom and dad were the only guests other than family. Jake's main present was a lab puppy from Brett and me and a trampoline from Granmama and Poppa. He had a great time! I cannot believe my "baby" is THREE!!! By the way...I made the cake...my first!!

Happy Easter

Easter this year was loads of fun. Since it was at the end of Spring Break it was especially relaxing. On Friday Jake and I decorated Easter eggs which was great because he really enjoyed the dye. Dropping the tablet in the water and stirring was a REAL TREAT! I just worried about my kitchen looking like a giant Easter egg before it was all said and done. On Sunday Jake had his basket from the Easter bunny and then we headed to church. We had been telling Jake that Easter is celebrated because Jesus is alive so that he would understand why Easter is a special day. After church we went to Granmama and Poppa's house for lunch and an egg hunt. Beth, Josh, and the girls were there and the Hulls hunted eggs with us. Brett brought the boat over and the guys, Lynlee, and Holly went for a ride...It was a little cold for me. This Easter was a great day for food, fun, family, friends, and faith.New pics on Flickr!

A Camping We Will Go

We ventured into the great outdoors March 16-18 and camped out IN A TENT at Oak Mountain State Park. As anyone who knows Brett knows this was RIGHT up his alley. Jake and I had a great time too. I am sure we will do it again. Jake LOVED all of the wide open space. He climbed the "mountain," played in the creek, played in the sand and on the playground, visited the wildlife rescue center (like Diego), and hiked to Peavine Falls. We cooked out on a fire and had a relaxing family time.

This look of shock was pretty much on his face ALL day! This little man LOVES to be outside...even in the snow we discovered today.

CHRISTMAS FUN!!!

Christmas was great this year because Jake finally understood Santa Claus and presents. We told him that Santa brought everyone presents to help celebrate Jesus' birthday. All he asked for was a Big Buzz and a kangaroo, but Santa and family brought him A LOT of gifts. This "tour" wheeler was on of his favorite surprises. More Christmas pics at Flickr!!

Every year Brett, Jake and I go to Zoo Lights at Montgomery Zoo. This year it was COLD!!! It was worth it though because Jake loved the train ride, the lights, and Santa.

This year we were busy. For the first few days of the break we went to Jackson to visit Nana, Papa, Stacy and Hope. After a few days there we headed to Gulf Shores where we spent Thanksgiving with my family. Check out the new FLCKR pictures.

Woody, the Cowboy, Celebrates Halloween

PUMPKIN PATCH

On October 27, Brett, Jake, and I went to the Pumpkin Patch in Clanton. Mom, Dad, and Holly went too. It was great fun. I had never been before. Jake was more excited about the inflatable slides and the tractors than anything else.
